Keys

I've been busy looking at trinkets and objects that interest me to draw for the Boutique hotel project, and old keys and locks have really began to attract my attention.
After looking at some fabulous websites with antique keys, locks and charms i have began drawing different types of keys with all sorts of media.

.Pencil.

.Ink and Wash.

.Indian Ink.

.Acrylic Paint, PVA and Ink.

Cuckoo for Clocks

My latest assignment has been based on creating a Boutique hotel wallpaper for surface designer Kate Usher. After looking into many directions to research for ideas, I came across an inspiring surface pattern designer, Claire Leina. I completely fell in love with this wall piece she created (featured below) of a Cuckoo clock.

I thought the detail used to create the fine lines making up the various forest animals is almost enchanting.

After looking into cuckoo clocks and especially this wall piece, I have decided to include them in my design for boutique hotel themed wallpaper.

Cut and Mirror

I created a floral painting (featured below) and went onto cut and mirror it to form a new design.

I went onto create two new motifs using this mirroring technique. After selecting one of the designs, I then went onto use an ink and wash technique to print a repeat pattern of the flower in symmetrical lines.

Next i added to the pattern by painting various sections. I think this technique of cut and mirror worked very well. It just shows you can create some very interesting designs from one image.
I could see this pattern having the potential to be used as wallpaper.
I have went onto use this technique in other projects and a very promising result has occurred every time.
